Introduction           From earliest times, Christians gathered at regular hours during each day and night to respond to God's word with praise on behalf of all creation and with intercession for the salvation of the world. By the fourth century, if not earlier, moing and evening had emerged as the pre-eminent hours for the offering of this sacrifice of praise. They have remained so ever since, especially on Sundays when the Church commemorates both the first day of creation and the day of Christ's resurrection. These orders of service are examples of forms which comply with the provisions of A Service of the Word and are intended to help Christians of our own day take their part in this privilege and duty which belongs to all God's priestly people. They may be celebrated in a variety of different ways, for example, as:           ¶    a simple form of prayer at the very beginning or end of the day;           ¶    the Gathering and Liturgy of the Word for another serv ازادی مذهب و ازادی زنان افغانستان...ادامه مطلب

Non-Muslims in Afghanistan continue to suffer violence and harassment and there are still no public places of Christian worship. Just a few places of worship for Sikhs, Hindus, and Jews remain but the last public Christian church in Afghanistan was destroyed in March 2010, the report says.     Conversion from Islam to another religion is apostasy punishable by death for men and life imprisonment for women. Hindus, Sikhs, Bahais, and Christians make up about 0.3 per cent of the 32.6 million population in Afghanistan. There is one Jewish person left in the entire country, according to the latest Inteational Religious Freedom report from the US State Department. His name is Zablon Simintov. He is a businessman whose wife and two daughters live in Israel. Capital city of nearby country becomes haven for converts—even though denied refugee status. Abby Stocker [ posted 7/25/2013 11:44AM ] 56 tweet share emailemail -->print The New York Times sheds fresh light on the challenges faced by Afghan Christians seeking religious freedom, spotlighting the growth of a refugee church in India's capital city, New Delhi. As the Times observes in a report worth reading, more than 200 Christian converts from Muslim backgrounds have fled to New Delhi, seeking refuge from the Taliban and from political backlash after television coverage resulted in one Afghan politician's urging the govement to execute converts in 2010. As CT noted in July 2010, the Afghan govement also suspended operations of two Christian NGOs after an Afghan TV station broadcast coverage of baptisms by Weste aid workers. Though members of the Afghan Church of New Delhi say they feel safer in India, their lives are complicated by their lack of legal recognition as refugees. ازادی مذهب و ازادی زنان افغانستان...ادامه مطلب

Image caption                                     Zarina, recovering in hospital, said her husband had tried to stop visits to her parents                 A 23-year-old Afghan woman has described to the BBC how her husband tied her up and cut off both her ears in a domestic violence attack in the northe province of Balkh. The woman - Zarina - is now in a stable but traumatised condition in hospital. "I haven't committed any sin," she said. "I don't know why my husband did this to me." The woman's husband is on the run in Kashinda district following the attack, police have told local media. Zarina told Pajhwok news that the unprovoked attack took place after her husband suddenly woke her up.      She was married at the age of 13, and told BBC that "relations with her husband were not good". Zarina complained that her husband had tried to prevent her from seeing her parents, she said in another interview, with Tolo News. She said she no longer wanted to remain married to him. Police in central Afghanistan are searching for a man who allegedly cut off part of his wife's nose with a kitchen knife. The woman, thought to be 20, is in hospital. Officials say the man has reportedly assaulted his wife before. Although such mutilation is rare in Afghanistan, reports of violence against women are increasing. Last year the country's Human Rights Commission said violence against women rose by almost 25%, compared with 2012. The names of the couple have not been released but police in Daykundi Province say the man attacked his wife after a heated argument.      "The husband cut his wife's nose with a kitchen knife," said Muhammad Ali Atai of the Provincial Crime Branch in Daykundi. "Police transferred her to hospital. But her husband escaped from the area and is still at large." The woman's family has not commented on what happened and details are sketchy.  'Removed her fingeails' Zakia Rizai, the head of Daykundi's Women's Affairs Department, told the BBC that the ازادی مذهب و ازادی زنان افغانستان...ادامه مطلب

An Afghan woman jailed for adultery after a relative raped her has been freed, her lawyer has told the BBC. The woman, known only as Gulnaz, was released on the orders of President Hamid Karzai, who pardoned her earlier this month. Her lawyer told the BBC that she was released without precondition, dispelling fears that she may have to marry her attacker. The case drew inteational attention to the plight of many Afghan women. Gulnaz - who was sentenced to 12 years in prison after reporting that she had been raped by her cousin's husband - recently gave birth in jail to a daughter.      Her lawyer, Kimberley Motley, told the BBC that she was healthy and happy to be released. Ms Motley said that Gulnaz is now staying in an undisclosed location in Kabul with her child after being released oveight on Tuesday "for her own safety away from the blaze of publicity". "She is now free to lead a normal life without the threat of further legal action," she said. "I hope this historic case wi ازادی مذهب و ازادی زنان افغانستان...ادامه مطلب

Afghan President Hamid Karzai has ordered changes to draft legislation that critics said would severely limit justice for victims of domestic abuse.  A spokesman said he would insist that "necessary amendments" were made.  The bill - passed last year by parliament - bans relatives from testifying against alleged abusers. Human rights groups said the draft law would make it almost impossible to secure a conviction in cases of violence against women. The conservative-dominated Afghan parliament - both houses of which had already passed the law - is now expected to either agree to make amendments or begin discussions again.      In what appeared to be an 11th-hour decision by Mr Karzai, a cabinet meeting on Monday decided the legislation would have to be changed. "We are not going to allow any such law to come into force unless the necessary amendments are made," Mr Karzai's spokesman Aimal Faizi told AP news agency. Mr Faizi suggested there may have been a problem with how the legislat ازادی مذهب و ازادی زنان افغانستان...ادامه مطلب

Women's rights may have moved up the agenda in Afghanistan over the last decade, but violence against women has increased sharply, rights groups say. Two recent cases of brutality have shocked the nation, as the BBC's Mahfouz Zubaide and Yo Haniewicz in Kabul report.  Readers may find some of the details in these accounts distressing. The Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission has said that the number of cases of violence against women in 2013 has risen by 24.7% compared with last year - an increase it describes as "staggering".  Some of these reports will be the kind of everyday violence that a number of  Afghan women face at home. Many women are too afraid to seek justice because, campaigners say, more often than not their cases are ignored. But others are cases of brutality meted out in areas under Taliban control such as the case in 2010 where a couple were stoned to death in a village in the northe province of Kunduz. Over the last week, there have been two shocking exa ازادی مذهب و ازادی زنان افغانستان...ادامه مطلب
